PDO, Protected Designation of Origin, is the European trademark for the protection of agricultural products and agro-food characterized by the strong ties to the origin territory.

The Vastedda della Valle del Belìce has obtained the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Union, the settlement of which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on October 29, 2010.
The protected designation of origin Vastedda della Valle del Belìce is reserved for the spun paste cheese, made from sheeps reared in the Valle del Belìce.
The historical and cultural ties between the Vastedda and territories of the Belìce valley, the ancient traditions of Sicily and the historical experience of the islanders cheesemakers. Are the qualities expressed by the DOP trademark, contained in a unrepeatable product outside the origin places.
