PDO Trademark

Denominazione d'origine protetta  PDO, Protected Designation of Origin, is the European trademark for the protection of agricultural products and agro-food characterized by the strong ties to the origin territory.
PDO products are regulated by European laws that define the recognition mode and the protection activities for each product.
The Protected Designation of Origin aims to give an acknowledgment for those regions, countries or simply to geographic areas that identify foodstuffs or agricultural products.
The geographical feature is a key aspect for the regulatory of a PDO, whose qualities must derive essentially or solely from the geographical environment of belonging.
Indeed, the local environment includes all the human factors, climatic and environmental factors that leading to the transformation and production of PDO.
  In short, a PDO product must contain all the unique and unrepeatable characteristics present in the area of origin.

  The Vastedda della Valle del Belìce has obtained the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Union, the settlement of which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on October 29, 2010.
The protected designation of origin Vastedda della Valle del Belìce is reserved for the spun paste cheese, made from sheeps reared in the Valle del Belìce.

The product specification is the document containing the operational indications to be complied within the productive chain of the certified product.
The PDO regulation lays down provisions and information to be included in the specification and describes the methods of application.

All registered protected designations of origin are protected against any form of infringement or limitation, and otherwise against any practice liable to mislead the consumer about to the the real origins of the product.
